The Philippines Project
I thought that I would devote some space in my blog to tell you about a project that I support with all my heart.
The SGS College Philippines Project is a successful college-wide project that is currently in its 6th year. I am fortunate to be involved with the Project as a founding member and a continuing staff volunteer. The Project aims to achieve a high profile within the College's enrichment programme by providing volunteering opportunities for students and staff to work with some of the poorest communities in the world.
The Project provides considerable benefits to both learners and staff:
- Engagement in a curriculum of philanthropy, that advocates principles and values relating to caring for, supporting and empowering others, and making a positive impact to humanity;
- Development of (transferable) soft skills, e.g. effective communication, problem-solving, time-management, using initiative, increased awareness of equality and diversity, confidence;
- Enrichment opportunities including: fundraising; volunteering; working directly with communities-in-need across a range of initiatives in education, health, social and livelihood; team building; international travel; and,
- Achievement of an NCFE Level 1 Volunteering qualification.
I am pleased to be able to be provide the 2016-17 results summary below.
